Computational Physics Project (U01369)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 9 ? Acronym : PHY-3-CPProj This course comprises a joint group project to understand how to develop a medium- to large-scale computer programme for a realistic computational physics problem. It builds upon the techniques developed in the Advanced Computer Simulation course and involves an oral presentation. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : Physics 2A: Forces, Fields and Potentials (PHY-2-A); Foundations of Mathematical Physics (PHY-2-FoMP) or Applicable Mathematics 4 and Mathematical Methods 4 (MAT-2-am4/mm4) or Principles of Mathematical Physics (PHY-2-PoMP); prior attendance at Advanced Computer Simulation (PHY-3-CompSim). Subject AreasHome subject areaUndergraduate (School of Physics), (School of Physics, Schedule Q) Delivery Information? Normal year taken : 3rd year ? Delivery Period : Semester 2 (Blocks 3-4) ? Contact Teaching Time : 1 hour(s) per week for 11 weeks Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
After completing this course students should:
1) have experience in working as part of a cooperative team in developing a medium scale application program in Java; 2) have developed time-management skills; 3) have written and maintained code comprehensible to a group of different programmers; 4) have learnt about the basic principles of quantum computers, and about some algorithms for them. 5) understand the fundamentals of computational complexity, and about how to design a software system in which different implemtations of interfaces can be easily interchanged; 6) have a good understanding of some of the most fundamental concepts of quantum theory, such as superposition of states, tensor products of linear spaces, unitary operators, and quantum measurement; 7) gain experience of presenting outcomes in both written and verbal form. Assessment Information
Group project, 100%.
