Subject AreasHome subject areaUndergraduate (School of Physics), (School of Physics, Schedule Q) Delivery Information? Normal year taken : 3rd year ? Delivery Period : Full Year (Blocks 1-4) ? Contact Teaching Time : 6 hour(s) per week for 8 weeks ? Additional Class Information : Semester 1 or 2. Semester 1: M, Th 1400. Semester 2: Tu, Th 1400. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course it is intended that a student will be able to:
1)understand how a spectrograph, light dispersing elements, and light detectors work 2)understand how to calibrate a spectrograph, and how to measure spectra of light sources 3)understand the data manipulation tasks of astronomers making observations 4)understand the meaning of random and systematic errors in experimental measurements and how to minimise their effects 5)combine errors in individual measurements to give an estimate in the error in a derived value 6)write up experimental work as a scientific report Assessment Information
Report on experiments and exercises, 100%
