Cognitive Neuroscience (U01060)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : BMS-4-NScog1 The brain is an information-processing device. This course outlines the concepts and techniques used by cognitive neuroscientists to study the neural basis of information processing, including perception, attention, learning and memory, emotion, language and consciousness. Key theoretical concepts at the psychological, anatomical and physiological level will be described. Experimental studies to be discussed are based on both human (e.g. neurological studies of brain-damaged patients and functional imaging work) and animals (e.g. behavioural, electrophysiological, pharmacological and molecular-genetic techniques). This Semester 1 course will consist of lectures, student-led seminars and lab demonstrations, with an anticipated enrolment of up to 15 students. While not essential, this course is a logical precursor to the Learning and Memory course run by Dr Emma Wood of Neuroscience Honours in Semester 2. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. ? Pre-requisites : Permission of the Curriculum Approval Officer. ?
