Cardiovascular Pharmacology B (U01042)

? Credit Points : 10  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : BMS-4-PHcvp2

Course content: This course will take an integrated approach to the CV system, building on the information taught in CV Pharmacology 1. The course will also cover a number of cardiovascular disease states, including hypertension, myocardial function and heart failure; existing drug treatments for these conditions and novel therapeutic targets; and pharmacogenomic approaches to identification of new targets.

Teaching Methods: The course will be taught using traditional lectures, linked tutorials based on paper analysis, workshops (e.g. molecular biology approaches), computer assisted learning (e.g. rat blood pressure) and demonstrations (e.g. methods of assessing cardiovascular function in man). Students will also be asked to make presentations based on revision of basic cardiovascular physiology and on 'hot topics in CV pharmacology'.

Assessment: The course will be assessed by an examination at the end of semester 1.
