Cardiovascular Pharmacology A (U01041)

Course content: This course will focus on the processes involved in vascular disease and the therapeutic approaches to disease treatment. Topics to be covered include the role of the endothelium in protection against vascular disease, antioxidants, and the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis that can result in thrombosis, myocardial infarction and stroke. Attention will be given to existing and novel drug therapies and preventative medicines used to slow the progression of atherosclerosis and to help prevent thrombotic events.

Teaching methods: The course will be taught using a combination of traditional lectures, linked tutorials, workshops and computer assisted learning sessions. Students will be expected to contribute to tutorial sessions and will make presentations on revision topics related to vascular function and on 'hot topics' in cardiovascular Pharmacology.

? Co-requisites : Nature of Receptors Core Course. Cardiovascular Pharmacology B
