Herpesvirus Pathogenomics (U01030)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : BMS-4-MI27 The Herpesviruses represent a large and diverse group of complex dsDNA viruses which cause serious disease and mortality in humans as well as numerous animal species. They have a global economic impact in human healthcare and agriculture. This special topic will outline the main human and animal herpesvirus groups focussing on principles of pathogenesis and immune evasion. The topic will explore virus replication strategies, pathogenesis, and mechanisms by which these viruses can maintain infection in the face of the host immune response. There will also be study of host and pathogen genomics, animal models of herpesvirus infection, and an overview of emerging techniques and approaches in herpesvirus research. Student presentations and essays will help to reinforce important aspects and emerging concepts relevant to the topic. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. ?
