Cystic Fibrosis Microbiological Challenges (U01029)

Three main CF themes will be covered. First, an overview of the basics of CF as a life-threatening inherited disease including the expanding molecular biology of CFTR in the context of lung defence and human gene therapy. Second, the epidemiology and pathogenesis of the major CF pathogens. Third, practical issues surrounding antibiotic therapy, the design of antibiotic trials in CF, cross-infection control and the potential biohazards relating to the agricultural use of Burkholderia as biopesticides.
