Intracellular Bacteria (U01011)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : BMS-4-MI10 This special topic will study the general characteristics of intracellular bacteria from both the microbial and host angle. The specific examples used will include Mycobacterium tuberculosis, M. leprae, Listeria monocytogenes, Yersina spp., Legionella pneumophila and chlamydia. Discussions will focus on the advantages of an intercellular lifestyle, mechanisms of cell entry and survival and host defence and recognition mechanisms. Students will produce a poster to illustrate aspects related to a specific microbe. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. ?
