Pathogenesis of Bacterial Gastro-Intestinal Infections (U01003)

The GI tract in health. Normal bacterial flora. Homeostasis. Pathogenic mechanisms. Common themes: adhesion, toxin production. Food-borne infections and intoxications. Emphasis on EHECs (E.coli O157 et al). Clostridium difficile and antibiotic associated diarrhoea and colitis. Helicobacter pylori (by group discussion).
