Acronym : DIV-1-CTHEOL An introduction to themes and methods in the study of theology which explores different ways of understanding revelation and authority; the doctrine of God; creation and Providence; human nature and sin; the person and work of Christ; the Church and its worship; the Christian life; the challenge of religious pluralism; eschatology. Students engage with key figures who have shaped the development of Christian theology, and consider the way theology interacts with disciplines such as philosophy, science, art and religious studies. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this course the student will have:
- knowledge and understanding of key issues in the study of theology, from the perspective of both Christian tradition and recent debate; - knowledge and understanding of the basic methods that the discipline of theology employs; - skills which enable the student to engage critically with contemporary debate in his/her reading, writing, reflection and discussion; - a good foundation for continuing studies in theology; - an understanding of core theological issues which can be applied in his/her wider work, e.g. in ethics/ biblical studies/ religious history. Tutorial attendance and contribution (15%). Students are required to attend tutorials and to complete a tutorial sheet.
