Environmental Geomorphology (U00373)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : GEO-3-ENVGEOM This course investigates geomorphic processes such as erosion or sedimentation that create or exacerbate local environmental problems. The practical skills and techniques required for successful scientific field studies in applied geomorphology will be emphasised. After completion of this course, students will be familiar with geomorphic processes and environmental problems influencing hillslope, coastal and urban environments. They will also practice the design and execution of a field-based research project, and become experienced in the formulation and testing of scientific hypotheses. Students will be able to estimate the flux of sediment, dissolved chemical species and water through landscapes, and to statistically analyse their environmental data using computer programs.
Assessment Information
Class assessment: Weekly problem sets 50%; Poster Presentation of field research results 50%.
Degree assessment: Essay (4000 words) on environmental geomorphology topic defined by course organiser 50%; Exam (2 hours) consisting of two essay-format questions selected from a choice of six questions 50%. Exam times
