Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of this course a student will be able to:
- calculate, model, and represent graphically the steady state operation and performance of induction motors and generators;
- represent the closed loop control models of statically - and brushless - excited synchronous generators using Laplace techniques and determine their time domain and s-plane performance;
- estimate the steady state and transient fault levels in simple power systems containing embedded generation;
- determine relay operating currents in overcurrent protection schemes and calculate clearance times, incorporating amplitude and time discrimination;
- represent graphically the effects of transmission network faults and establish the response of plain, offset or polarised impedance relays.

Assessment Information

Assessment will be based on a single written paper of 90 minutes duration.
