Archaeology 1 (U00339)

The course consists of the four modules which make up Archaeology 1A and 1B. In addition, there are three one-day or half-day field excursions through the year. Students are also required to attend a week's practical course during the Easter vacation.

This course is only open to students enrolled for an Archaeology single or joint Honours degree.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

A general knowledge and understanding of: Old World archaeology from the earliest peoples to the development of the first civilizations; archaeological principles, methodology and materials.

Assessment Information

Essays (2) 25%; Practical work portfolio 25%; Degree examinations (2) 50% [one exam in December, one in May; exemption is available for the second exam]. Exemption available for students achieving 60% on the basis of 2 essays (20% each), portfolio (20%), and the December degree exam (40%). No mark for any individual component to be below 50%.
