Social Work 4 (SW0031)

There are 5 components to the course: Research, Policy and Practice Sequences: several teaching and learning sequences address the policy environment for social work interventions; research on relevant social problems, methods of intervention and outcome studies; and the implications of this knowledge for effective intervention. There will be 3 prime subject areas, covering social work in community care (adults); social work with children and families; and social work in the criminal justice system. Practice electives (in Community Care or Children & Families Social Work or Criminal Justice Social Work) offer students opportunity to extend their studies in a specialist practice area. Theory into Practice extends the third-year course teaching on models and methods of practice. Social Work Ethics examines the application of core principles and values in professional practice. Second Practicum: students undertake a period of practice learning of not less than 16 weeks' duration under the supervision of a designated practitioner. Learning is assessed by prescribed reports.
