Critical Evaluation of Sources and Methods (SH0062)? Credit Points : 40 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : HCL-P-SH0062 The Core Course of this programme is a compulsory element for all candidates. It is intended to provide a critical overview of sources and methods relating to the study of medieval Scotland in the fields of archaeology, history, language and literature. It aims to promote an interdisciplinary approach to medieval Scottish studies by introducing students to a range of subjects and materials in such a way that they acquire a sense of how to evaluate these critically Entry Requirements? The course will enable candidates to:
- acquire, by attending and participating in seminars, an essential familiarity with a range of methods and disciplines applicable to the study of medieval Scotland. - develop a critical understanding of primary sources and secondary materials. - develop an awareness of how a critical perspective on primary and secondary materials can be combined in studying aspects of medieval Scotland. - improve existing skills in delivering oral presentations, participating in seminar discussion, and in producing a balanced and readable discussion of complex issues and detailed material.
