Contemporary Feminist Thought (PO0080)

1. Students on "with Gender Studies" degrees must take Contemporary Feminist Thought in the Autumn Term of their Junior Honours year. 2. Students on Social Anthropology with Gender Studies degrees must take the Social Anthropology option(s) "Cross-cultural Study of Gender" and/or "Gender Categories and Representations". Students taking only one of these courses will substitute an additional Gender Studies option from the above list. 3. Students may not take both "Rights and Wrongs in International Politics" and "War and Justice".

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students should be to:
- Understand and appraise the main approaches to the interdisciplinary study of gender;
- Understand the links between different strands of feminist thought, mainstream social and political thought, and contemporary social and political issues and debates;
- Develop research and analytical skills that help facilitate independent learning;
- Be able to communicate to others in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in writing, nurtured in seminar activities and essay construction and feedback;
- Co operate with others in shared learning in seminars through small group work and listening.

Assessment Information

Assessment for the course is based 100% on coursework by means of a 4,000 - 4,500 word essay
