Recent appropriate professional experience in primary dental care. At least 3 years post-graduation experience. Registration with the General Dental Council in the United Kingdom. ? Co-requisites : Current clinical practice in dental primary care. ? Special Arrangements for Entry : Specific support will be aranged for students with specific disabilities as already arrnaged for the other master degrees at the Edinburgh Postgraduate Dental Institute. ? Participants should:
Be able to advise a patient with a missing tooth or teeth of the options for treatment. Be able to provide an appropriate design for a partial denture for the Dental Technician. Be able to design a fixed prosthesis appropriate for a given clinical situation. Be able to provide a tooth preparation for bridge retainers consistent with the mechanical and biological demands to be placed on the prosthesis. Know the considerations in assessing a patient for dental implants and to understand the prosthodontic stages of treatment. Assessment Information
To provide records of:
A set of study casts from a patient who has a missing tooth or teeth mounted on a semi-adjustable articulator. A discussion on the nature of the edentulous space and the indications for treatment or management (300 words).(20%) A full set of records for a patient for whom a removable chrome-cobalt partial denture has been provided and a brief critical reflection on the care delivered. (300 words)(20%) A full set of records for a patient for whom a fixed bridge has been made where the abutments have been significantly prepared and a brief critical reflection on the care delivered.(500 words)(30%) A full set of records for a patient for whom a fixed bridge has been made where the abutments have not been significantly prepared and a brief critical reflection on the care delivered.
