QTL Detection and Genome Analysis (P02031)

? Credit Points : 10  ? SCQF Level : 11  ? Acronym : BIO-P-QTLDGA

This course applies and consolidates the theory of genetic marker technology and genome analysis, including Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) analysis, covered in the lectures and tutorials in BIO-5-GENANA. Through tutorials and computer practicals considerable hands-on experience is gained in using a wide variety of software packages required for genetic data analysis.

Entry Requirements

? Co-requisites : Must take BIO-5-GENANA

? Costs : To be met from additional MSc course fee

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course students will have considerable hands-on experience through computer practicals and will have produced written reports on their own analyses and interpretation in the following areas:
(i) The use of computer software for analysing marker data.
(ii) The analysis of simple traits, including linkage analysis, in humans and animals.
(iii) Analysis of complex traits, in particular quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis.
