Environmental Radioactivity (P01948)

? Credit Points : 10  ? SCQF Level : 11  ? Acronym : GEO-P-ENVGER

The course comprises a set of 10 formal lectures covering the basics of radioactivity; the origins, distributions and geochemical properties of natural and manmade radionuclides in the environment; the use of radionuclides as tracers of environmental processes; radionuclides as contaminants; the nuclear fuel cycle and radioactive waste disposal. The formal lecture programme is supplemented by a set of 10 one-hour sessions involving lectures, discussion sessions, tutorials, relevant mathematical skills and student presentations. The latter component introduces students to a number of aspects of research in this area of science, including research objectives, funding and outputs.
