Acronym : HCL-P-AppGenHis This module introduces students to the significance and methodologies of gender history in a variety of contexts and time periods. Particular attention will be paid to how gender histories have advanced knowledge and understanding of life stages and rites of passage, the body and sexuality, religion and belief, status and consumption, work, colonialism and national identities, life-writing, and the nature of subversions and transgressions. Students will acquire a knowledge of the different methodologies and approaches to gender history, and how evolving gender discourses and practices, have been affected by, and contributed to, political, social, economic and cultural transformations. They will learn how to assess historiographical debate and controversy, and its relevance to the study of gender history. They will improve their written, oral and analytical skills, and learn how to work as members of a team.
