Brain Imaging in Neuropsychology (P01640)

This course aims to introduce the student to a range of imaging methods and their application to the study of neuropsychology. Methods include both functional and structural Magnetic resonance imaging (including diffusion imaging and tractography, spectroscopy, perfusion MRI) single photon emission tomography, positron emission tomography and the application of imaging to neurological disorders such as tumours, stroke and neurodegenerative disease, and schizophrenia. The course will also focus on understanding the uses and limitations of imaging methods such as fMRI in the study of neuropsychology.

This course consists of 5 seminar sessions based in the Psychology Department, and an intensive week long teaching block headed by Joanna Wardlaw in the DCN, WGH.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will gain knowledge and understanding of:
a range of imaging methods including both functional and structural neuroimaging
the application of such imaging methods to the investigation of neurological disorders (e.g. stroke, tumours, neurodegenerative disease)
the application of such imaging methods to the investigation of cognitive models (memory and executive function).
Students will understand the uses and limitations of imaging methods in the study of neuropsychology.
