Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, members will be able to critically understand the theoretical, policy and legislative context of the concept of educational 'inclusion', including:
- the significance of competing voices and discourses;
- obligations, entitlements and strategies relating to relevant anti-discriminatory and inclusive practice;
- Assess the contribution of research to the pursuit of an 'inclusion' agenda;
- Critically understand the changing roles and responsibilities of specialised teachers in the context of inclusion (including implications for consultancy and collaborative working);
- Apply the above concepts and principles to the specific context of the chosen placement.

Assessment Information

Using the professional development portfolio participants will select an aspect of professional development need as the focus of the placement. On the basis of this, participants are invited to write one additional performance criterion, to be agreed with the course tutor. A 5,000 word account will be required, which will involve a comparison of the placement agency with the participant's own work situation, with specific reference to the inclusion of deaf learners.
