The Burghs and the Realm (P01083)

An examination of the way in which the medieval burghs fitted into the fiscal and administrative structure of the Stewart kingdom. Areas covered include; the growing economic dominance of Edinburgh and its emergence as a 'capital'; the role of the burghs in the Scottish parliament; burghs and foreign policy and diplomacy; burghs and their hinterland.
