Genome Analysis (P01011)

This course focuses on the principles of genome analysis and the application to data from human, animal and plant populations. It is organised on consecutive sub-modules: genetic marker technology; genetic markers in population biology; genome analysis of simple traits including linkage analysis in animal and human populations; and genome analysis of complex traits including quantitative trait loci analysis. The topics are covered in lectures, tutorials, group discussions of key scientific papers and computer practicals. Students are also expected to attend relevant graduate-level seminars and genetics journal clubs.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course students will have:
(i) An understanding of the principles of genome analysis and the application to data from human, animal and plant populations.
(ii) Knowledge of the principles and application of genetic
marker technology.
(iii) An understanding of the principles underlying linkage analysis and quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis.
