Managing Innovation in Services (P01007)

The course aims to provide rigorous yet practical insights into managing and organising innovation in services and brings together the latest academic research and management practice on innovation in services. Successful organisational responses to current technological opportunities and market imperatives will be identified along with contributions from process and product improvement. This will include the introduction of frameworks, TOPS - Technologies, Organisation, Process and Strategy, to identify, understand and improve the management of innovation in services

? Pre-requisites : Normally participation in Management Development 1: Personal Effectiveness and Learning Technology

? Costs : Most costs are included in the programme fee, though some communication costs will be borne by the students

? Additional Class Information : e-course with 6hrs streamed lectures; 4hrs Question & Answer sessions; 10hrs moderated tutorials/discussions; 15hrs structured activities; 15hrs multi media instruction; and 50hrs individual study, including assignments

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course the students should be able to:
- display an understanding of the management and organisation of innovation in services
- specify how process and product improvement contribute to service performance
- identify, understand and improve the management of service innovation
- develop measures of performance which encourage service improvement
- manage successfully new product and service development

Assessment Information

The course will be assessed through one individual assignment (10%), one group assignment (40%) and one individual project, including an electronic log of progress (50%)
