Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Successful completion of this course has both practical and intellectual consequences for the student:

Intellectual Outcomes
-Be able to distinguish between markup languages and other formal systems.
-Be able to characterise the differences between XML, HTML and SGML.
-Be able to assign document design and ontological analysis to the correct points in the design process.
-Understand the 3-layer nature of data on the web, and the basic architecture of information on the web

Practical Outcomes
-Correctly apply document design and ontological analysis at different points in the design process.
-Design and implement XML document types defined by DTD or schema
-Design and implement stylesheets for XML document presentation
-Exploit the separation of style from markup in designing document types and web applications
