Acronym : HCL-P-DARIEN The course aims to examine attempts to achieve a Scottish colonial empire within the context of the financial revolution of the late seventeenth century and the impact on Anglo-Scottish politics. The Company of Scotland will be analysed as an instrument of empire and also a significant factor in the development of financial capitalism in Scotland. The course will review the economic and financial aspects of the Anglo-Scottish crisis of the early eighteenth century and provide a perspective on parliamentary union of 1707.
