Scottish Towns, 1100-1700 (P00821)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : HCL-P-SCTOW The course, which will be taught by two specialist urban historians, will study medieval and early modern Scottish topwns using a wide range of source material, including archaeological, cartographic and statistical. It aims to view the history of Scottish towns from various perspectives, including overseas and inland trade, medieval industry, town and country, civic ceremony and the burgh church. In its latter stages, the course will examine the new pressures imposed on the burgh community by the religious changes, outside political interference, population increase and price rise of the 16th and 17th centuries. Through completion of this course students should not only have gained knowledge and understanding of this period of Scottish History but should have had some experience of the following skills:
Critical reading of primary and secondary sources Completion of independent research leading to seminar presentation and submission of written work to a required standard.
