Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

First, students will acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the core syntactic phenomena of English - especially those that have significant semantic effects or consequences, such as negation and other phenomena involving scope. And secondly, it will present students with a range of approaches, from the derivational to the representational, in order to show how the relationship between syntax and semantics, and the nature of the syntax-semantics interface has affected granmmatical theorising in a range of different models.
