Acronym : SPS-P-UPNILE The objective of the course is to identify the sociological aspects of the historical causes of the circumstances that have confronted the people of the region over the last twenty years. There are three themes which can be summed up as political and trade networks, sociality, and boundaries. The course will focus on the legacy of nineteenth and early twentieth century slaving and its modern transformation into a distinction between Muslims and non-Muslims. By the end of the course, students should have:
- advanced knowledge of the fundamental social and historical factors which have contributed to the contemporary situation in the Upper Nile region of the Eastern Sudan - mastery of the key generic concepts of sociality, identity, historicity, and regionality high level transferable skills in the use of regional analysis Assessment Information
