Core Topics in HPC and e-Science (P00374)

The aim of this module is to review a range of topics in the area of HPC and e-Science. These topics relate to, and extend, the core content of the other modules on the MSc and Diploma. Topics have been chosen in the area of HPC, e-Science, object-oriented technology and software engineering and are topics that students should have a basic knowledge of when graduating with an MSc or Diploma in High Performance Computing.

Topics that will be covered include: extreme programming, project communication and co-operation and performance optimisation.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : Only postgraduates or final year MPhys students with suitable computational background, subject to space restrictions and agreement with relevant Programme Coordinator.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module students should be able to:

- describe a range of software engineering topics such as extreme programming and project communication and co-operation;
- understand the process of performance optimisation.
