Views of French Revolution (FR0040)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : LLC-4-FR0040 Through the close study of a series of well-known historical events (as seen by certain actors in the drama, and as later judged by successive generations of Frenchmen), the course seeks to introduce students of literature to the problem of historiography in the widest possible sense of the term. The course is designed, on the one hand, to encourage a close examination of mentalities (through close textual analysis) and to be an equally systematic examination - in the overall context - of the ways in which myths can be fashioned and fostered and also of the possible reasons why. On the other hand, the course will also aim, methodologically, to be an introduction to the need for vigilance and caution in any and every domain of intellectual enquiry in which considerable reliance on secondary material is unavoidable.
