Systematic Theology 2Ah: Uses of Philosophy (DV0103)

The course introduces students to the relationship between thought/language and reality: the so-called problem of universals, together with how God is understood in philosophical contexts.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : Students should already have 120 credits. Exceptionally, students with 80 credits will be admitted.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will (1) demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the main texts set for tutorials; (2) rehearse principal arguments on the main themes; (3) identify points of agreement and disagreement between philosophers and between their interpreters; (4) identify more general problems in the philosophical treatment of questions about God.

Assessment Information

critical book review (2000 words) due noon 17th October;
essay (2000 words) due noon 7th November.
