Twentieth-Century Prose (CT0100)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : LLC-3-CT0100

The course will consist primarily of close analytical readings of a range of short stories and novellas by leading Gaelic prose writers from 1960 onwards, including Tormod Caimbeul, Iain Mac a' Ghobhainn (Iain Crichton Smith), Tormod MacGill-Eain, Iain Moireach and Eilidh Watt. In addition to considering the dominant themes and questions addressed by these writers, the course will give close attention to questions of structure and narrativity, and the difficult evolution of new literary genres in Gaelic. The texts studied will be placed in the context of the work of other twentieth-century prose writers and of Gaelic literature and culture more generally. The course will be delivered in Gaelic.
