Students will gain a broad appreciation of the distinctiveness of contemporary Canada, particularly as it is situated in its North American context. They will be able to discuss some of the most important challenges that the country faces, and how these are being addressed. They will be aware of the contributions that different disciplinary approaches can make to the study of a country in its contemporary setting. Completion of this course will thus add breadth of understanding to their own particular programme of study, both in a disciplinary and a geographical sense.

Assessment Information

This half course will require students to complete one short assignment and one assessed essay of 2000 words. At the end of the academic year, students will take a degree examination consisting of one 2-hour paper. In assessing the overall mark, the short assignment will be worth 10%, the essay 25% and the final examination 65%.
