Environmental and Community Biology 1 (BI0015)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 8 ? Acronym : BIO-1-ECB Selected topics on organisms in the environment, and relationships to land-use management: the biosphere, biomes and ecosystems, extinction of animals, carbon flow and global climate change, plant-microbe symbioses, biological control of pests and pathogens, genetically modified organisms, epidemiology of human disease. Strong emphasis is placed on skills development, including group project work, computer-based scientific report writing and web site development. Several small independent or group assignments must be completed as part of the course. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : Normally, prior attendance at Origin and Diversity of Life 1. ?
Special Arrangements for Entry : Practicals/Workshops run for two hours on Monday 10 - 12.30, or Wednesday 10 - 12.30, or Wednesday 2 - 4.30 p.m. or Thursday 2 - 4.30 and are on alternate weeks. 1 x 1000-word project plus 4 individual practical assignments. Examination = 65%; Project = 15%; 4 assessed assignments = 20%.
