War, Famine, Pestilence and Death? Early modern society in Scotland and England (U02509)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : HCL-3-WARFAM

The course aims to consider a period of British history that students tend to engage with through the dramatic events of reformation, civil war and revolution. Recent scholarship has sought to probe beneath political narratives dominated by social elites and investigate the day-to-day lives of early modern individuals, families and communities. In this course, Scotland and England will be given equal consideration and the emphasis will be on key themes rather than geo-political entities. This will give students a deeper understanding of British society in its formative period, while also introducing them to some of the debates within early modern European history.
