Acronym : LAW-3-LW0010 Examines differential patterns of criminal involvement between men and women and critically assesses explanations for these patterns. Provides an overview of the operation of the criminal justice system as it relates to gender, including an examination of: sentencing patterns; and the nature and effectiveness of penal regimes that have been developed for male and female offenders. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The course exposes students to a variety of criminological perspectives and aims to develop the students' ability to appraise arguments critically in terms of their logical coherence and the use made of evidence. It encourages them also to think about how the theoretical knowledge can be applied to practical problems.
