Ergogenic Aids in Sport (U00992)

? Credit Points : 10  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : MED-4-PYerg

Ergogenic agents, (e.g., creatine, some steroids and peptide hormomes, a high carbohydrate diet) may improve sporting performance. How does one decide if an agent has ergogenic properties? How might it work, at a molecular level? We will tackle these questions by studying certain agents. Modes of teaching: background lectures, student-led seminars, a modest amount of practical work, a short team project.
