Special History in Music: Music in Christian Worship (U00870)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : ACE-3-GEGenApp This course provides a detailed study of the role played by music in the liturgies of various Christian denominations. Historical background will be combined with modern practice; visits to church services followed by discussion, will inform discussions about the appropriateness of various styles of music for different worship contexts. - Students should have an historical awareness of variety of musics used in contemporary church worship.
- They should have examined a representative sample of liturgical music and studied it both contextually and analytically. - They should have an appreciation of the historical and contemporary role of the organ in worship. - They should appreciate the central part played by the hymn in worship in all denominations. Assessment Information
Presentation (10%), coursework essay c.3,000 words (45%) and one 2 hour degree examination (45%).
