Quality Engineering and Design for Manufacturability 5 (U00731)

The objective of this course is to introduce the concept that design cannot be carried out in isolation from the manufacturing process and that quality and reliability are essential components in satisfying customer's requirements.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : Only open to Honours students in the appropriate Engineering discipline.

? Prohibited combinations : Electronic Product Design and Manufacture 5

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

A student should:

Understand experimental design and the use of response surfaces to optimise processes.

Understand the impact of process variability on product quality.

Have an appreciation of process improvement methods and their role in improving quality within an organisation.

Assessment Information

Contribution to DOE course and critical report (33%.3).

Contribution to parameter optimisation process and poster (33.3%).

Contribution to TQM presentations, web and video (33.3%).
