The objective of this course is to provide students with a methodical approach to product design which breaks the process down into sequential steps.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : Only open to Honours students in the appropriate Engineering discipline.

? Prohibited combinations : Electronic Product Design and Manufature 5

? Delivery Period : Semester 2 (Blocks 3-4)

? Contact Teaching Time : 6 hour(s) per week for 5 weeks

? Other Required Attendance : 20 hour(s) per week for 5 weeks

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

A student should:

Understand the seven step design process together with its strengths and weaknesses.

Have the ability to apply the seven step design process to any problem from the design of a simple device to the design of a complex system.

Have a basic understanding of the requirements and processes involved in providing a medical telematics based service in the project area of their choice.

Have a good working knowledge of a design methodology which is transferable to any design problem.

Assessment Information

Individual report in the form of discussion and conclusions on the chosen project (50%)

Group report on the chosen project (50%).
