Integrated Circuit Technology 5 (U00498)

The aims of this module are to introduce: 1. State of the art TCAD tools; 2. SPICE parameter extraction; 3. The effect of process variation on device and circuit performance; 4. Yield measurement tools and the impact of IC layout on chip yield.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

A student should:

1. Understand the strengths and limitations of TCAD software.
2. Increase understanding of IC process technology and device operation.
3. Understand the effect of process variability on SPICE parameters.
4. Be able to demonstrate how process variability affects circuit performance.
5. Understand the effect of layout on chip yield.

Assessment Information

Assessment will be based on the following components:

1. individual solutions produced for the introductory exercises,
2. a test
3. a short individual report
4. a second short individual report
