Christian Practice 1 (U00492)

This course introduces students to practical theological approaches to the study of Christian Practice. The course considers Christian practice within the context of the church as a worshipping, learning and caring community. Liturgical, educational and pastoral practices will be studied through the case study method and the use of different models of theological reflection on practice.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course participants should be able to do the following:
1. Describe key features of Christian practices of worship, education and pastoral care.
2. Analyse case studies of Christian liturgical, educational and pastoral practices.
3. Engage in theological reflection on practice in the study of Christian practice.
4. Give an inter-disciplinary account of the church as a community of practice.

Assessment Information

1. Reflections of 300-400 words on material covered in weekly seminars (20% of course grade)
2. Essay of 2,000 - 2,500 words (20% of course grade)
3. Two hour examination (60% of course grade)
