Hydrological and Hydraulic Modelling 5 (U00423)

This course is intended to build on the hydraulics, hydrology and water resources taught in earlier parts of the degree programme, and to introduce students to mathematical modelling in hydraulics and hydrology, with particular reference to flood estimation.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

This course is intended to:
- introduce the basis of computational hydraulic modelling;
- introduce the practical application of computational hydraulic models;
- provide an introduction to hydrological modelling;
- lay the foundations of understanding in process hydrology;
- familiarise students with models in common use in engineering design;
- provide the depth of understanding required for professional application of these models;
- engender an enquiring approach to problem solving that encourages investigation of alternative solutions and system sensitivities.

Assessment Information

The assessment will be made on the basis of:
Degree examination: 60%
Project submission: 40%
