The Archaeology of the Mesopotamian Plain: 6000-300BC (P00340)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : ACE-P-P00340 An overview of the archaeology of Mesopotamia, specifically on the irrigated Mesopotamian plains, but also to include the Diyala plain, Iraq, and the Susiana lowlands in SW Iran. Emphasis will be on broad developmental trends as derived from the record of settlement archaeology, the material culture and political economy will also be examined in order to provide a robust view of this heartland of early civilization. To provide a general introduction to the development of early states and civilization of Mesopotamia. The class will employ results from the latest studies of the landscape and textual analysis to fill gaps that exist because of the lack of archaeological excavations.
Practical and Professional Skills: Will enable students to navigate and draw conclusions from large quantities of data culled from different disciplines: archaeology, environmental studies and ancient texts. Transferable Skills : This class, with emphasis on the integration of complex classes of physical and cultural data, will provide a firm foundation for multi-disciplinary analyses.
