Sound and Fixed Media (P00190)

In this course we cover the use of sound in moving image media such as digital video and film. Students also investigate contexts for the use of sound in radio and internet audio-streaming systems. We also look at industry standard audio formats such as 5.1 surround sound and and explore specialised audio recording techniques such as Foley editing and ADR.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Understand the role of sound in synchronised media. Be able to evaluate and analyse sound design in film. Gain familiarity with industry standard audio approaches. Ability to edit digital video and synchronise sound. Awareness of the complexity of sound and image structures.

Assessment Information

Sound design for short film (70%) Evaluation of the use of sound in a selection of films (30%)
