The Archaeology of the Near Eastern Landscape (P00141)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : ACE-P-P00141 The course provides an overview of the Ancient Near Eastern landscape directed towards an understanding of the rise of early states and empires. A broad perspective of the Near Eastern landscape will be offered with emphasis being upon economic and ideational landscapes as well as situating landscape development within the context of long-term environmental and demographic change. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and Theoretical Understanding: to provide an understanding of the spatial, landscape and economic underpinnings of the origins of early states and empires. Emphasis will be upon interactions between humans and the environment and human management of nature as well as human cognition of nature. Practical and Professional Skills: will contribute to a basic knowledge of cultural resource management of Near Eastern landscapes and archaeological survey techniques. Transferable Skills: the integration of complex classes of physical and cultural data, specifically using geographical information systems (GIS) and the interpretation of remote sensing data.
